Testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. [Acts 20:21]
Nobody knew it back in 1944 when a young pastor named W. A. Criswell first moved in here with his wife, Betty, and their young daughter, Mabel Ann, that this place would become a ground zero point: a place where every morning, without fail, Dr. W. A. Criswell had an appointment with his Lord. As a result of those meetings came some of the most powerful and influential sermons ever delivered from a Southern Baptist pulpit, but the real power behind the ministry of Dr. W. A. Criswell started rightContinue Reading
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewContinue Reading
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
The title of the sermon could be The Higher Critics, or, as I would entitle it The Unbelieving Half Infidel Higher Critics of the Holy Word of God. That is my title for it.
The lecture today is entitled The Bible and the Authority of Jesus Christ. I have always felt that we have to go back to the originals in order to find an absolute authority for what God had revealed to us in Holy Scripture. In this study, time and again, I ran across the avowal, that when Jesus speaks of the Bible and its authority he was speaking of the translations that were evident and used in that day. He was not talking about the originals. The originals had been lost from the beginning. BContinue Reading
Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were wContinue Reading
And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel. And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month. And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before theContinue Reading
In this last lecture I have put together, out of the years and years of my experience as a pastor, I have put together the Do’s and Don’t s for the Pastor. And I have a multitude of them. So, when I prepared the manuscript, I put the Do’s first, the Do’s for the pastor, then the Don’t s for the pastor.
